Ambition hosts ‘behind-the-scenes’ visit for students from across the UK
On Thursday 10 December 2015, Ambition hosted 25 students from across the UK for an exclusive behind-the-scenes visit. The event, part of A Capital Experience, was organised in partnership with Career Ready, a national charity linking employers with schools and colleges to open up the world of work to young people.
During the afternoon the students experienced interactive sessions around networking, developing a personal sales pitch and how to use social media professionally.
In total, 1,600 students from across England, Wales and Northern Ireland, who are all starting the Career Ready programme at their school or college, came to London. Ambition was one of more than 60 of the capital’s employers to support the event.
In the morning, all students were given a masterclass on communication and networking and had the opportunity to put their new skills into practice, meeting other young people from across the UK.
Career Ready aims to make young people work ready by delivering a programme of mentoring, masterclasses, workplace visits and internships in schools and colleges across the UK.
Ambition has been working with the charity for several years and along with hosting workshops, the company also provides paid internships to sixth form students during the summer holidays. Several of Ambition’s consultants also act as mentors to sixth form students.
Anne Spackman, Chief Executive of Career Ready, said: “The visits that took place across London mark the first step in our students’ journeys. For many, this will have been their first visit to London, and to walk into the glass and marble towers of the capital and realise that they are welcome and that someone like them could work there, is an inspirational moment for these students. We hope that moment of inspiration will stay with them throughout the programme and motivate them to aim higher in their future careers.
“We are incredibly grateful to all the businesses and individuals who hosted our students today and we hope those involved enjoyed it as much as our students did.”
