The Challenge
Commonwealth Secretariat faced a significant challenge in finding a balance between a “fancy” and “functional” design for their report. Previous iterations had been heavily text-centric, lacking visual appeal and failing to engage readers effectively. The organisation desired a design that would not only convey the necessary information but also captivate the audience.
The Solution
To address this challenge, we implemented several strategic design enhancements:
- Integrating Stock Photography: We incorporated high-quality stock photographs throughout the report to break up large blocks of text. This approach not only added visual interest but also provided contextual relevance to the content, making the report more engaging and easier to navigate.
- Maximising Brand Utilisation: Leveraging the Commonwealth Secretariat’s existing brand identity, we expanded the use of their colour palette. By introducing a broader range of colours and incorporating colour blocks, we were able to highlight key points and important sections of the text. This technique helped in drawing attention to critical information and improved the overall readability of the report.
- Stylised Visuals: To give the photography a unique and contemporary look, we applied various effects using Photoshop. This stylisation added a professional and polished feel to the images, contributing to the editorial aesthetic of the report.
The Result
The result was a contemporary report with a strong editorial feel. The design successfully utilised Commonwealth Secretariat’s brand as a stylistic tool, emphasising their important work and creating a visually appealing document. The balance between text and visuals ensured that the report was both informative and engaging, meeting the client’s objectives and enhancing the overall presentation of their content.
