sa.global at Briefing 5P 2020: How to determine the right tech platform to drive your firm’s profitability
The theme for the next in our webcast series for Briefing 5P – in the run up to our main virtual event on 9 and 10 November 2020 – is profitability. We explored Beyond the hype: Determining the right tech platform to drive law firm profitability. Stephen James, group CEO and founder at our partner and sponsor for the event sa.global, joined Briefing’s deputy editor Kayli Olson to break down the intersection of tech and profitability.
Tackling the complex tension between increasing profitability and delivering high-quality work has never been more important to law firms. Tech has a crucial role to play – but how do you ensure that it can be effectively applied to your strategic advantage?
We heard from a range of experts from legal, tech and client-side, giving us a well-rounded view of the topic and some of the challenges and solutions. Craig Bird, business applications specialist at Microsoft, discussed how law firms can better use data to drive decisions and reporting, and improve quality and consistency of service.
Laila Aslam, general counsel and company secretary at Waterstones, gave us the client view and talked on her experience from working at Deloitte as well as the challenges and learnings she’s faced moving into the retail world.
Our law firm voice was none other than Mike Giles, finance director at Fieldfisher. He talked on some of the internal challenges facing law firms around the nature of law and adopting new things. He also had a lot to say about the role of technology and the changing dynamic it plays in financial reporting and profitability.
Stephen James pointed out that it’s a process of evolution not revolution – and that you don’t need to rip out the plumbing and start from scratch.
How do you cut through the hype and better go to market for solutions to your profitability problems? Watch the conversation back here.
